Problem
A project site needs to be excavated and backfilled prior to a foundation pour.
Given the following parameters, approximately how much water must be added to the excavated soil prior to backfill and compaction in order to obtain the target dry density and moisture content.
- Fine-grained soil
- Excavated soil moisture content = 8%
- Final Compacted volume of soil = 8000 \(ft^3\)
- Optimum moisture content = 15%
- Desired dry density for backfill = 130 PCF
