Practice Question: Calculate the Wind Pressure Acting on a Roof

NCEES Civil PE Specification Analysis of Structures–Loads and Load Applications: Wind Loads

Problem

A building with a flat roof, having a width of 60 ft and a length of 80 ft, is located in a region where the basic wind speed is 120 mph. According to ASCE 7-16, calculate the wind pressure acting on the roof if the exposure category is B and the importance factor is 1.0.

Consider exposure coefficient, topographic factor, wind directionality factor and ground elevation factor as 0.85, 1, 0.85, and 1 respectively.
