\[Width\ of\ beam = b=12\ in\]\[Height\ of\ beam =h=18\ in\]\[Clear\ Cover\ of\ beam =c=1\ in\]\[Diameter\ of\ stirrups =d_s=0.5\ in\]\[Diameter\ of\ rebar =d_b=1\ in\]

Effective cover of beam can be calculated as:

\[Effective\ depth\ of\ beam = d=h-c-d_s-\frac{d_b}{2}\]\[Effective\ depth\ of\ beam = d=18-1-0.5-\frac{1}{2}\]\[Effective\ depth\ of\ beam = d=16\ in\]

Area of steel can be calculated as:
